o.m.g. I adored it. And I can't get it off my mind at all- folks, the world isn't kidding you when they say it's a movie that 'stays' with you.
But one thing- WTF, Statesboro Movie Theatre? YOU ARE SO STRANGE. Seriously, Jamie and I go in there- first, they only take certain types of debit cards [wtfwtfwtf] and no credit [wtfwtfwtf]. So I owe Jamie. If we go see ita gain, i guess I get to pay. XD
But we eventually do get in there and it's set up likea dinner theatre! !!!! Seriously, tables, chairs! And tehy come and serve you. So. Strange. So very, very strange.
But cool.
I was on teh verge of tears for hours, all day in class I keep thinking about it, this is madness. Somehow it manages to touch something inside youm, grab hold of your heart strings and just twist the shit out of them. I want to read the short story like, NOW.
I think the thing about it that killed me so much is that they were so completely stuck- paralyzed byt the times and society, and yet, out of fear as well. Particularly Ennis. He couldn't leave the life he had, even when he was miserable for dear that the same thing would happen to him that he saw happen to the man in his youth. It broke my heart when Lureen was describing what happened to Jack and all Ennis sees is the image of a hate crime.
Why does society have to freeze people like that, leave them stuck? Being caught in circomstances you can't escape, wanting to be with someone you can't be with, but NEEDING it. It's just. So. yarg.
The way the story ends, it leaves you still in the middle of Ennis's story, but at the end of Jack's. It tells their story, but nothing more. It leaves you wanting to know things are going to get better for the poor man, but knowing they won't because he can't let go, he can't get absolution, and he can't move on. He's still frozen, paralyzed.
I need icons. Time to go hunting.
EDIT: New icon, fixed spelling on names!
