the tree won
Jun. 20th, 2005 01:56 pmYes, well, rather funny story, actually. You see, I ride horses for those of you who don't know that....Mostly I ride horses who haven't a clue what they're doing. And I attempt to teach them. Usually succeed.
Today was not a good day in terms of training.
You know how you always see movies where people get knocked off on tree limbs? Yes, well, that's usually a moot point in riding, even when you're out in the middle of the woods. It's the sort of thing that happens in MOVIES. Not in actuality.
Apparantly it does occasionally happen in actuality.
You see, I was riding this little horse and there are a BUTT-LOAD OF DOGS like, surrounding him. He's pretty cool about it until we get up to the turn that goes away from the barn (and his buddy horses, food, and thigns that are Not Work). Now, between where we were and the barn is this flipping huge pine tree. Most of the branches are up high enough that if you duck a bit it's all good. Well, he starts scotting sidewise towards the barn, but between here in there is the one branch that is NOT duckable- follow? Good.
Yes, well, so, my shoulder hits it. I expect it, like most branches I have hit, to bend. Or break in the absense of bendy-ness. It didn't. So, Gabe (horse) keeps going because all of a sudden I'm not fighting about it so much...Frankly I'm a bit for concerned about the BRANCH. And then he scoots. And I go the other way, because I mean, there's a BRANCH there. So leg goes over his back. He moves more, am now facing branch. Cue widening of eyes! Let's just say we stopped there. I abandoned ship and just grabbed the reins. Enough of that!
But here I stand...sit...living proof that you CAN be knocked off by a stupid tree limb. Left a right nasty scrape, which I just discovered has already swolen up a touch and is turning purple underneath. And it HURTS. *whines* It was green for a while because apparantly the part of the branch that attacked me had needles on it. I was unaware that pine needles could shed their chrolophil onto my skin, but hey...I learned TWO life lessons today, huh?
fucking tree.
Oh, and feel free to leave a GSP (gratuitous snickering post), at least then I'd know my injury did a bit of good by bring amusement to you.
