Because it amuses me.
Mar. 13th, 2009 09:43 pmI have probably mentioned before that I am basically the one-person doorbell-ringing brigade for my House. We have about 60 people living here in 10 different flats. I know most of them--though I forget the names of those who don't come out often. Which I suppose makes me the Social Coordinator of House 86, which is fun.
Basically what this means is either I or someone else decides WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING. Usually "something" being go out to a pub/bar/club. So I either take it upon myself or the person who came up with it asks me to go and ring on every doorbell in the building. Thus, how I know almost everyone. Everyone answers the door at SOME point and it was always hilarious at the beginning of the year when I'd ring a doorbell and someone I had NEVER SEEN answered it. One of those "UHHH, HI. You don't know me, want to go to the pub?" Pretty damn amusing. They're used to me now.
Also in the beginning, this took me about ten to fifteen minutes to do. Conversations weren't that long. Just a "Do you want to come to ____" and a yes or no answer. Since I've gotten to know people, this has changed. This has changed DRASTICALLY. I cannot get through the house in any less than 30 minutes because I get sucked into INCREDIBLY RANDOM CONVERSATIONS! So I give myself an hour before the time when we're heading off. This time, I got back with 15 minutes to spare. Rofl, right? AND I do part of it via facebook now. Initial planning with a few regular people, follow-up messages on time and place to the people I talked to first, etc. And I tend to have a few text message conversations about things going too. See. Social Coordinator.
...But the reason I was bothering with this at all is a- 15 minutes to spare and b- one of the RANDOM CONVERSATIONS was about TORCHWOOD AND DOCTOR WHO.
Yes. I was inviting people out to the pub and ended up discussing Dashing Captain Jack, the Invisible Lift and various other things. Including the Dalek Inna Pond. WHICH IS STILL FUNNY, TYVM.
Oh and trying to guilt people into coming out is always hilarious.
Niall: I've had to turn down three offers tonight.
Me: You're always saying no to me. You're going to give me a complex.
And various things of that nature. It's amusing. And very few people give me an outright "No" anymore. They feel compelled to give compelling reasons. For instance:
Steph: I have four papers due by Thursday.
Me: [Cue the wide eyes and bowing down] <-- I really did this too. Got a laugh!
I like people. And this is an artform, one that I've gotten pretty good at.
Annnnd now I have five minutes to get my shit together and get outside! HAVE A GOOD NIGHT, GUYS!
