Date: 2005-03-21 04:37 pm (UTC)Let's see, we have Roberts, McEwan (I died laughing when I realized one of the guys in my family was Gregor McEwan.), Buchanan, MacKay, and about 50 others. I may have an English last name (Stephens), but our family is sooo Scottish, it's not even funny.
Hey, this has been really bothering me, but... did you ever go out with Toby?

Date: 2005-03-21 06:14 pm (UTC)I have Buchannon and...Stewart? I think. Most of me is German and French though- Scottish is the next biggest part. =) My great-grandma (following all through women) was a Yule, which is part of the Buchannon clan. =)
I'm a Lyles. I have no clue what that is. o.O

Date: 2005-03-21 09:11 pm (UTC)I find it hilarious you can't find much in the way of tartans in Edinburgh. There were loads of tartan stores in London! Plus, Epcot has a tartan shop in "Great Britain." ;)
I searched "Lyles coat of arms (http://www.houseofnames.com/coatofarms_details.asp?sId=&s=Lyles)" on Yahoo! and it says you guys are Scottish. I was assuming it would be either that, or Welsh.
Oh, it's horrid. Maggie Smith married Robert Stephens for a while and they had their son, Toby Stephens, right? Well, one of my friends asked me if I was related to Toby Stephens. I said, "Well, as much as I would love being related to Maggie Smith, erm, no." Do people not realize how common a last name Stephens really is? ;)

Date: 2005-03-21 09:42 pm (UTC)Oh, you could find tartans easily enough- it was the Buchannon tartan in particular that was tricky!! *grin* And I wanted my Buchannon tartans.
As for last names- I have no clue about a lot of the 'Lyles' part of my name, my granddad was a hobo- literarlly- he hopped trains during the time of the great depression. There're a lot of stories about him that my dad'll tell sometimes...and I know I can trace back to a Lair McCalpin of Ireland on that side of my family...but that's about it.
Even with LESS common names you get that sort of thing! How many people have you heard with the last name of 'Lyles'? Not many I'd reckon. But there's another one campus here...Matt. He's a sophmore, does a lot of theatre. Thus we compare what we know from time to time...but I was asked three times in one day if he was my brother. *facepalm* Rather annoying. I guess it didn't help that our names were in alphabetical order in the program and thus everyone saw two Lyles's....Lol
